The Sorrow is a unique eyewear design deeply rooted in the daily struggles and victories of those who have experienced or are currently experiencing mental health issues or stigma. These frames are an accessory and powerful statement of resilience and strength in adversity. They stand out boldly, just like the people who wear them.

As an artist who has faced depression since childhood, I have always used my art to channel this energy into something positive. The Sorrow is my latest creation - a tribute to embracing sadness and depression instead of hiding them. By wearing these frames, others can find the courage to embrace and wear their own struggles with pride.

Inspired by Hayley Newman's emotional crying glasses and the iconic Metal Gear Solid character "The Sorrow," I wanted to create a pair of sunglasses that would empower the wearer. These frames are an accessory and powerful statement of resilience and strength in adversity. They stand out boldly, just like the people who wear them.

The Design

The glasses began as hand-drawn sketches, which were then converted into 3D models. Multiple revisions were made until the shape was perfect. Once the design was finalized, the glasses were handcrafted in Hong Kong using high-grade acetate.

To complement the glasses, custom packaging was created. A miniature plastic lunchbox was included, along with a numbered edition card and a certificate of authenticity.

In addition to the glasses, I also created an illustrated pattern that was printed on various pieces of clothing such as shirts and sweatshirts. I also made an animation to showcase the design.

 

The Campaign

The Spot

As an artist, I cannot express enough how much effort, time, and passion I put into bringing "The Sorrow" campaign to life. I poured my heart and soul into every single detail, and I am proud to say that the finished product is a true reflection of my artistic vision.

Creating the hand-drawn animation was both challenging and rewarding, but it was worth every second. With over 10,000 frames, I knew that I had to approach the project with patience, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. And I am delighted with how it turned out.

The Fashion

In addition to the animation, I also had the opportunity to art direct and photograph fashion stories to support the campaign. It was a fantastic experience, and I am grateful for the chance to showcase my artistic skills and creativity in different mediums.

All in all, I am incredibly proud of what I achieved with "The Sorrow" campaign. It is a true work of art, and I am thrilled to have been a part of it.

The Photographs

Photographs capture moments frozen in time, encapsulating memories and emotions that would otherwise fade with the passing of days. The sorrow sunglasses, with their tinted lenses that mask the world in shades of melancholy, bring a unique perspective to photography.
